Keiji Mutoh LEG LOCK website merchandise

Venturing where no other figure blog has gone before, Blog #207 uncovers the long-defunct
LEG LOCK website and the items that were made available through LEG LOCK's online store.

As you may have guessed, LEG LOCK is the official website of Keiji Mutoh's merchandise
label. While the LEG LOCK site has long been taken down, you can still access the site by
using waybackmachine.org. The official website address for LEG LOCK is: http://leglock.
nifty.com
(don't bother trying ...the link no longer works).

The above photo is from 2003. The included items are:

No Sleeve Shirts,
Caps,
NEW ITEMS!!,
Keiji Mutoh
and Satoshi Kojima costumes,
Great Muta costumes,
OTHERS
(this covers action figures, jewellery and watches)
LEG LOCK shirts, Junior apparel, Mineral Diet formula,
Supplements
and a link to the mobile site.

Since most of the content was featured back in 2003 and 2004, a lot of links to the merchandise
no longer works. In the rare case that a link does work, most of the product photos have been
deleted.

The Great Muta costume section from 2003 features three hoods meant to serve as replicas
to the entrance attire The Great Muta once wore in the late 1980's to early 1990's. Most links
include a photo of Keiji Mutoh holding the item himself with a lengthy description.

The hoods retailed for 9,333 (about $90 USD). In recent years, I've seen the price of these replicas
triple in value on certain Japanese sites.

Also included are Wristbands meant to be paired with the three hoods for sale. The blue design
is a classic 90's design while the red and black versions seem to be late 90's early 2000's.

Items with the LEG LOCK logo including:

LEG LOCK Sports Towel,
LEG LOCK Sweater,
LEG LOCK T-Shirt,
LEG LOCK Socks,
LEG LOCK Shorts,
and LEG LOCK Jean Shorts

As Baseball is incredibly huge in Japan, LEG LOCK were quick to add baseball jerseys to the
mix. The Jersey's name reads "F.F. LEG" (short for Figure Four Leg Lock) on the back.

Besides the baseball jerseys, there is also a gradient short-sleeved t-shirt and a LGLK Athlete
logo t-shirt.

Other items include a LEG LOCK Silver Ring (for about $120 USD), a sticker and a Great
Muta Head Key Holder.

The Great Muta Key Holders were made by Japanese toy maker INSPIRE (who are best known
for the 1/6 scale 12 inch Keiji Mutoh/Great Muta figures that came in blue box packaging). The
first is the Mech. Jason X version, which first appeared on the LEG LOCK website back in 2004.

The second variant is the Darkness Muta (or just "Ver. 2." as the packaging says), which was
released in 2005.

You can tell INSPIRE shrunk down the mould used for the 12 inch Jason X figure to create
the first key holder. Imagine if INSPIRE made a 12 inch Darkness Muta figure, too...

Besides Great Muta, INSPIRE also made key holders of other legends including:

Tiger Mask
Satoshi Kojima
The Great Sasuke
and Kazushi Sakuraba

You can find INSPIRE's key holder series by typing:

INSPIRE マスクキーホルダー     (which translates to " INSPIRE Mask Key Holder").

Of course, we have to talk about the figures the LEG LOCK website sold.

No longer categorized as "Other Items", a figure section was finally added to the LEG LOCK
website in 2004. While only a few photos remain, let's go over the figures that were for sale
(from top to bottom):

ブルーザー・ブロディフィギュア キングコングタイプ
Bruiser Brody Figure  - King Kong Type -
2,000 yen ($18 USD)

Yes, the incredibly expensive Bruiser Brody DX figures by Character Product originally
sold for $18 USD from Keiji Mutoh's website in 2004. Unbelievable. This is the real
chain variant.

ブルーザー・ブロディフィギュア 超獣タイプ
Bruiser Brody Figure Beast Type - 2,000 yen ($18 USD)

The second Brody DX figure by Character Product that features Brody swinging the
chain above his head.

武藤敬司フィギュア ガウン

A limited edition collaboration between fashion label A Bathing Ape and All Japan Pro-Wrestling.
The figures were said to made for the "Pro-Wrestling in Osaka" tournament. The figures are:

"Mr. 610"  (in a Japanese number system "610" means Mutoh - Keiji Mutoh),
"KOJI" (Satoshi Kojima),
BAPE MAN (an original Wrestler),
and "KAZ" (Kaz Hayashi).

グレート・ムタ 1/6スケールフィギュア

HAOコレクション ソフビフィギュア「武藤敬司」

HAO Collection Sofubi Figure (Keiji Mutoh) - 2,800 yen ($25 USD)

and bald head.

HAOコレクション ソフビフィギュア「小島聡」

HAO Collection Sofubi Figure (Satoshi Kojima) - 2,800 yen ($25 USD)

Likewise, Satoshi Kojima's first HAO figure with Lariat pose.

黒師無双DXフィギュア
Kokushi Muso DX Figure
- 3,000 yen ($27 USD)

Character Product's DX figure of Kokushi Muso (Mutoh's Hakushi-inspired monk gimmick)
which contained the largest number of accessories ever packaged with a Keiji Mutoh/Great
Muta figure at the time.

2004 also saw the inclusion of the Keiji Mutoh vs Ebessan 2 Pack BAPE Exclusive!
as featured in LEG LOCK's figure section.

The two-pack was another joint collaboration between All Japan Pro-Wrestling and A
Bathing Ape (which even ran special Wrestling shows together). Compared to the regular
version of this set (which featured both figures shirtless), the "BAPE" exclusive contains
both figures wearing A Bathing Ape T-Shirts.

The BAPE two-pack originally sold for 4,285 yen ($39 USD) and is considered one of the
more expensive Keiji Mutoh/Great Muta two-packs.

Closing thoughts:

Keiji Mutoh's LEG LOCK website was active between 2003 to 2009. Judging from the
pages collected by the wayback machine/internet archive, LEG LOCK's dip in activity
started around 2007.

Personally, I would have jumped on purchasing all of the Bruiser Brody DX figures for
only $20 bucks (which now go for hundreds of dollars a piece)! The amount of inflation
these figures have attained after Character Product went out of business is astounding.
