In our last blog entry, we took a look at the second-rarest Character Product figure (the Tiger
Mask Polystone statue) which was priced at $600 USD. But, there is one figure that is even more
expensive than that.
Blog #196 is all about the Character Product Tiger Mask Legend figure
The packaging looks similar to INSPIRE's blue window boxes.
In Japanese, this figure is known as "初代タイガーマスク 伝説 フィギュア"
(First Tiger Mask Legend figure). I also recommend adding in "60cm" (the figure's
height) to narrow down your search.
In the bottom right corner, Character Product's third logo is visible.
The Tiger Mask figure stands an impressive 60 centimetres (23 inches) tall; easily making this,
with my experience, the single largest Tiger Mask figure ever made!
The design of this jumbo figure is based on the first generation Tiger Mask Satoru Sayama
as he competed for New Japan Pro-Wrestling in the early 1980's.
The veins in Tiger's wrists and biceps are clearly visible. A few Japanese reviews have also
strangely praised this figure's highly-detailed nipples. Odd.
Like many Japanese figures, Tiger Mask features minimal articulation.
Tiger's ring mask appears to contain fabric material with rubber accents. I find the glitter
adds a nice touch.
The mask, however, cannot be removed.
Tiger Mask's fabric entrance cape contains a great gold foil touch and graphics of the
Tiger Mask anime.
Closing thoughts:
Well, there you have it. The single most-rarest/valuable Character Product figure.
While Character Product's polystone Tiger Mask statue sells for an average of $600 USD
(and is far more rare to the point of being barely photographed), the Tiger Mask Legend
Jumbo figure sells for an average of $600 - $732 USD on the secondhand Japanese market.
Could you imagine if one was ever posted to a site like eBay? Simply unbelievable.
On top of being the largest Tiger Mask figure ever made, the jumbo legend figure is also
one of the rarest in a limited edition of only 200 pieces made in total.
